A project run by an association of Vietnamese and Australians. Poverty Free Da Nang was set up to reverse the growing poverty in Da Nang, by funding and resourcing small struggling businesses to get off the ground. and begin to produce a decent income for the workers, as well as bringing back hope and dignity in providing a 'fair pay for a fair days work'. All profits will be channeled back into the community in order to continuously build the economic well being of Da Nang.

Weell, like a lot of things in Vietnam, things haven't run according to plan and our purchase of the Coffee Shop has hit a fairly big snag. Namely that the Landlord does not want us to go in under the previous owners lease. There has been some interesting happenings in the relations between the Landlord and the lady who runs the coffee shop in the building. To put it in a short way, the Landlord wants the coffee shop lady out, but the Coffee shop lady is 'standing on her digs' and refuses to exit. We have spoken to the Landlord, and she is happy for us to rent the building under our own name, but have no association with the previous renter. So we just sit and wait for either party to make the first move. Will the Landlord find enough 'bad evidence' against the current renter to be able to break the contract and get her out, or will the current renter's business totally fail and she gives in and chooses to leave.

We are now in the final stages of the purchase of May House Coffee shop. So there will be much celebrations and activities when we move in and take over this business.
Having a central base for our activities will really thrust us forward to achieving our goals. we can begin to put into effect some of our plans for the small businesses. Of course the Coffee shop in itself will provide some financial turnover, which we hope to develop into a much more profitable place than it is currently achieving. But also we can start developing the Handcrafts shop and begin to stock that. And we can start looking at setting up a great massage room suitable for our Seeing Hands massage business, and our blind masseuse can hopefully begin to attract 'foreigner clientel'. The biggest plus of course is having this shop as a central point of our tours operations.

We have now established a working relationship with 'Trading Table' in Lismore. Here you will find products made in Vietnam. The sale of these items will go towards the ongoing work of Poverty Free Da nang. This is still in the early stages of development, so keep watching this space for the address where these items will be displayed.

We are now in negotiations for the purchase of a small coffee shop. This shop appears to be perfect for running 'Poverty Free Da Nang' in. It has an already established and popular coffee shop business, plus the building has a large shop front which could be used for 'Poverty Free Da Nang Handcrafts', another room suitable for 'Seeing Hands Massage', and it will be a good center for having "Off the Beaten Track" to manage their tours from. It is located in the central business district of Da Nang, but in a quiet street, close to other significant 'foreigner frequented' restaurants and coffee shops. So we are very excited by this opportunity.
